Many athletes define their aerobic fitness by their VO2 max capability. A lot of smart watches offer a feature to calculate this value. But none of the tested sport smart watches by different scientists are perfect matches in comparison to lab testing.
So do we live in an illusion of quantify yourself? Do wrong measurements provide a better informative basis than having none tangible clues?
Alex Hutchinson concludes: "For most of us, an estimate of VO2 max is interesting for curiosity’s sake, and an error of a few percent is no big deal.". At least it is a question of money you would like to spend to get more exact measurements.
